At 5:00 PM sharp, we're tapping a pin from our friends at McFleshman's Brewing Company in Appleton. This week it's a strawberry basil light lager.
A light lager is a generous base for something like this. There's no heavy malt or hop character in the way, so the strawberry has room to come through clean, with the basil nestled beside it.
Cask is the reason to catch it here at Tributary. This pours at cellar temperature and is softly carbonated to accentuate the aroma and character, which is about the best treatment a delicate fruit and herb beer can get.
The Mill is in The Garden from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with their Friday fish fry and full menu.
True cask ale is rare in the U.S., and cask ale is at its best fresh, so anything left won't be served the next day. If you want a pour, 5:00 is the time to be here.
We'll be tapping a new cask every Friday. Check back for details.
